February 1st-Sentencing Hearing
In early January the trial of Daniel Griffin took place in the 422nd State District Judge J. Michael Chitty's courtroom. February 1st Daniel Griffin received his sentencing for the horrific crime that he was found guilty of committing. The jury reached a verdict of one count murder and two counts aggravated sexual assault. Kaufman County District Attorney Rick Harrison spoke these words at Griffin’s sentencing hearing "This man has done something that nothing can change. I'm asking that you give the maximum time for this maximum crime." Griffin was sentenced three consecutive life terms in prison by State District Judge.
October 9, 2006-Forever Changed
The morning of October 9, 2006 several young women’s lives were changed forever. One murder, one sexual assault and one kidnapping took place in a town that many call home. Not only were these events hard to believe, but it hit home for many students at our local high school. Daniel Griffin was recently convicted of one count of murder and two counts of aggravated sexual assault. Griffin avoided life in prison without the possibility of parole, when the jury decided upon a murder charge instead of capital murder. Sentencing is set to be February 1st.
